The modern slave trade is a multi-billion dollar industry. Often the victims are young women. Despite their powers, many mutants are shackled in various ways in human societies across the planet. Some chains are literal, most are not.
The Hellfire Trading Company continues to flex hard and soft power when and wherever possible to ease the plight of trafficked mutants and humans.
In the case of the young mutant woman from India named Lash, her existence was an open secret in the shipbreaking yards. The West discards their most dangerous waste in poorer countries in the East. The breaking of ships is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Lash's mutant gift made her an invaluable asset, and she was coerced into the job by the mafia in her town.
The message the Red Queen made in Russia—offering assistance to mutants hoping to emigrate to Krakoa—has hundreds of millions of views online. Krakoa still monitors the comments section of the post, searching for mutants in need. Lash's plight became known after one comment linked to a surreptitiously-recorded mobile video of Lash in action breaking a ship. The video was quickly deleted, but not fast enough to stave off the Krakoans.
The Stepford Cuckoos have begun accompanying the Marauders on some extraction missions in order to turn down the heat on hostile encounters with humans. Lash's family was identified and secured about The Mercury without the need for violence.
When not in use, The Marauder is frequently moored in Madripoor Bay as a reminder from Krakoa to the citizens of Madripoor that the friendship between the two islands will overcome the current Verendi government.
Lash and her family join a burgeoning society on Krakoa. The Children Of the Marauders are mutants from around the globe who have only one thing in common: they were delivered from their old lives by the Hellfire Trading Company.
